Social Merits
Social Merits are an invisible currency gained through interaction and current position in the social climate.
Social Merits can be used for many things, such as:
-
Starting, Spreading or Stopping a Rumor
-
Sabotage
-
Discounts and preferential treatments at gatherings / shops.
-
Secondary character slots
-
Group invitations
After every social event, members who participated will receive a base number of social merits that can be increased depending on perceived success during the event and amount of participation. If your OC is socially inept, do not worry! You are always guaranteed social merits regardless of success, but any spectacular fails will also receive merits as a pittance. Eg. if an OC stumbles and knocks a punch bowl onto them they may receive extra social merits as NPCs will pity them.
During the application period, social merits will not be allocated but RP channels will be available. Any member who is active in events held in these channels will retroactively receive social merits upon official opening.

In universe explanation: During The Season, the rich and powerful from across the islands flock to one area and bring their material wealth with them. With such an overabundance of wealth, one cannot simply throw money at their problems and alternate currency needs be considered. If a famous tailor was flooded with requests, all willing to pay exorbitantly, they would prioritise someone they like and who has a good reputation to represent their product. In such a way, OCs both rich and poor are on equal footing.
